Have you ever noticed how problems have this nasty habit of getting bigger the more you think about them? It’s as if your thoughts feed them. They can start out small, but grow into giants as you continue to think about them.
It often happens at night. You jerk awake from a peaceful slumber, and the problem is the first thing you see. It sits there in a dark corner, and you are convinced it has grown a little since you went to bed last night. You lie there and stare at it. And before your very eyes, you see it grow. It gets bigger and bigger until it is the only thing you see.
Next time this happens, put that giant in its place.
By praising God! When you praise God, you fix your eyes and heart on Him. Think about who He is and what He has done for you.
Then praise Him. Making Him bigger in your eyes and thinking is the way to make the problems smaller.
Praise God for who He is.
He is the Creator of all things. In Him [Jesus] we live and move and have our being. And He upholds all things with the word of His power. (Acts 17:28; Hebrews 1:13)
He is the only true God. There is no other.
He is the Saviour.
First Peter 5:7 instructs us to give our worries and cares to Him for He cares for us. He is your Caretaker.
He is Jehovah Jireh, the Lord who provides for your every need. (Genesis 22:14; Philippians 4:19)
He is your Protector. He is your sun and shield, your stronghold and your fortress. You can hide in the shelter of the Most High and rest in the shadow of the Almighty and know you are saved. (Psalm 91)
He is the King of kings and Lord of lords. (1 Timothy 6:15)
He is the One who loves you so much, He gave everything so you can be His child. (John 3:16)
He forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases. He redeemed you from death and gave you eternal life. He crowns you with love and tender mercies. (Psalm 103)
Next, praise Him for what He has done for you.
You have been saved. You are a new creation, His very own workmanship, created in Christ Jesus. (2 Corinthians 5:17; Ephesians 2:10)
You are forgiven. You have been translated from the dominion of darkness into the Kingdom of His dear Son. (Colossians 1:13)
Because of Jesus, you are dead to sin and alive to God. You are one spirit with Him. (Romans 6:11; 1 Corinthians 6:17).
Every good and perfect gift comes from Him, and He does not withhold any good thing from those who do what is right (James 1:17; Psalm 84).
He has blessed you with every spiritual blessing in heavenly places. He has also blessed you with everything pertaining to life and godliness. (Ephesians 1:3; 2 Peter 1:3)
You are a child of God. (John 1:12)
He gave you the Holy Spirit to live in you (1 Corinthians 3:16).
He gave you the Word. He gave you faith. And He poured out His love into your heart. (Ephesians 2:8; Romans 5:5)
When you praise God, you exalt Him. You make Him bigger than the problem.
Remember, nothing is impossible to God, and all things are possible to him who believes.
So put that problem giant in its place by putting God in His rightful place.
Shrink it to its proper size by praising God.
And make it even smaller by continuing to praise God and keeping your eyes firmly fixed on Him.
